Children of the Land by Marcelo Hernandez Castillo

5.0

This book is 6 out of 5 stars. It is absolutely stunning. It's earned a place among my absolute favorites. The author's life story tapped into every one of my emotions and made me not only feel them, but he made them burn with intensity. He's a poet before an author and it's very clear in his writing style. He is so incredibly poetic in his writing that I dried up my highlighter. It's the story of his and his family's journey through the U.S.'s broken, cruel and heartless immigration system and how it impacted everything from his relationships with his family to his professional and academic endeavors, to his physical and emotional health. I cannot recommend this book enough.
