The Hedgewitch Queen by Lilith Saintcrow

3.0

Overall an enjoyable read. I enjoyed the small weaving of magic into the world. Many of the characters fell a little flat, however - which is doubly sad because I feel a lot of them (especially in the Guard) had potential to be interesting people. Vianne and Tristan were the best fleshed out by far, but Tristan became too much about his love and duty to Vianne - as if anything he was an individual went away when they joined up. Vianne simply bugged me in that everyone was always commenting on how clever she was but she came across as really thick for a lot of the book. I had a good time reading this though and want to read the sequel to find out what happens next - a very open ending! Basically, a cool story but needed way more character development.
