Long Way Down by Jason Reynolds

Ok so I finished this book at like 1 AM this morning so I’m gathering my thoughts and writing a review for this one now! This book was incredibly powerful and got me questioning my own perspectives regarding gun violence and if I’m being honest I have no idea why I haven’t read this sooner. I highly recommend that you pick this one up and give it a read just because with current events this is a book that should be read!

What I liked:
-The premise of the storyline is intriguing. Will’s brother is murdered in front of his very eyes so he takes his brother’s gun hidden in his drawer and decides he will shoot the guy whom he believes murdered his brother except things get a little interesting on the elevator ride to where this guy lives...This is the gist of the plot and it’s an intriguing one. One that kept me hooked all the way through. In fact, I wasn’t expecting the ending so there’s that. For a story written in verse it had a decent plot premise.
-The verse and prose is beautiful and a treat to read-so much so that I found myself snapping pictures of the pages while I was reading, which I don’t typically do
