The Invitation by Vi Keeland
3.0

I might or might not have picked this book because Nick Bateman is on the cover but unlike Miss Keeland's other books, this one did not deliver.

Starting with the plot which was a mess of various events, crashing the wedding of the MMC's sister, a lot of business talk that I was not interested in that leads to a boss/employee relationship to the end with a plot twist that I saw coming from the beginning.

Second were the characters, while I warmed up to Hudson by the last quarter or so( single dads in books are my weakness so it might have something to do with it) I couldn't for the life of me like Stella. Our FMC has a weird tendency of sniffing random stuff and even a weirder hobby: read other people's diaries. I'm sure the author was aiming for an endearing and cute character but the only thing that Stella gave me was secondhand embarrassment.
Sure, she's a perfumist and has an extraordinary sense of smell( forgot the scientific name) and the diary reading has a big role at the end but that doesn't mean I should like it.

Even so, it did manage to make me laugh a couple times and keep me entertained so overall, The Invitation is a light, quick story to read between heavy books and have a good time.
