The Poisoner's Handbook: Murder and the Birth of Forensic Medicine in Jazz Age New York by Deborah Blum

5.0

I did not know what to expect, but was most pleasantly surprised! In fact, I thought it was fiction when I picked it up - I had no idea how it was going to describe such an important piece of history in a fascinating time in our country.

While the book mostly follows, and extols the enormous virtues of, two men in particular, it also explains the politics of the era (eerily mimicking our own current corruption), and addresses World War I, prohibition, and so many more topics of the era, and how they affected our country's growth. All this while detailing chemistry, autopsies, and more!

Highly recommended!
