I have a lot of conflicting feelings about this book. On the plus side, it's very relaxing and lighthearted, so it's a great book to read when you just need a classic romcom.

However what ruined it for me
1. They just ditch their dog and run off to Japan for an indeterminate amount of time?
2. Weird how a lot of the humour is built around people who are anti-monarchy. Like ofc we should be anit-monarchy??
3. In all seriousness, my Chinese background makes it very hard for me to accept the way this book portrayed Japan as the victim of World War II and how they continue to glorify the army, air force, and land of the rising sun. Seriously. Weird amount of emphasis on how Japan "came back" from the war. If we set this same book in Germany, you tell me how this would sound to you in the Western world...
