Lover Mine by J.R. Ward

3.0

I am completed invested in the series but this one was disappointing for me. I'm not surprised that I was disappointed because I find John Matthew to be an utterly uninteresting character. As another reviewer has noted, the B-story with Qhuinn and Blaylock is much more compelling.

John and Xhex have no chemistry whatsoever. John fell infatuated by her several books back and simply decided that he would give her his heart. There is no spark and no moments save their dual 'think of me' exchanges.

Lover Mine, while advancing and expanding the BDB universe, was contrived and overly saturated with side stories. They all come together in the end, but really, did we need all of that page time devoted to why John and Xhex are 'meant to be?' Well yes, because they have no chemistry so it has to be fate. *face palm

*****SPOILER ALERT******

Also, I find it extremely curious (and ridiculous) that Rhevenge is practically absent from Xhex's story. How can that be? He makes maybe two appearances in a 74-chapter book?! How? The Shadows are there more than Rhev and even they weren't around enough considering how tight-knit that fearsome foursome is supposed to be.
