The Book of Five Rings: A Classic Text on the Japanese Way of the Sword by Miyamoto Musashi

5.0

This is everything The Art of War wishes it could be.

From literally teaching you how to wield the sword to passages about how to clear your mind and eliminate "sickness", The Book of Five Rings really has it all. Having been familiar with Musashi's story through my own historical research and the manga series Vagabond, it was very cool to see his philosophies being put out into the world so bluntly.

There is very little confusion to be had here. Just like the things both Musashi and Munenori teach, this book is to the point, and doesn't dwell on one topic for too long. There were so many little nuggets of wisdom, simple sentences of no more than ten words, that really made me stop and reflect about my own self.

This is a book I am definitely going to revisit soon to highlight some key passages. I can definitely see myself referring to Mushashi and Munenori's teachings over and over again whenever I am faced with life's troubles.

Whether the prospect of two Samurai's sitting down and teaching you their way of life interests you or not, read this book. You won't regret it!
