I wanted to like this book more than I did, but a few things bothered me. The writing was a little heavy-handed with awkward descriptions that felt like they were trying too hard to be literary, and kept jarring me out of the story. At times the characters didn't make a lot of sense to me, especially in the modern story - a lot of it just seemed a bit too improbable (but not in a whimsical intentional way...)
