The Prague Cemetery
by Umberto Eco
DID NOT FINISH
"—in short, a bizarre collection of costly and curious objects that perhaps indicated not so much a consistency and refinement of taste as a desire for ostentatious opulence." - Eco, Umberto (2011-11-08). The Prague Cemetery (p. 3).
A quote that pretty much describes the bloated narrative of Umberto Eco - or at least as much of it as I could stand to read.
Yes, I know that he is supposed to be a brilliant author and that this book is supposed to be a "sophisticated and playful commentary on metafiction, and the challenges of historiography" and that all the hate-talk by the anti-hero protagonist is satire on "wrong-thinking".... but it is still a VERY unpleasant read.
I decided to quit torturing myself and put this one aside. I might give it another try at a later time, but I doubt it.
