The Poet X by Elizabeth Acevedo

5.0

Every now and then, I come across a book that brings me to tears. I must say that I've been wanting to read this collection of poetry for so long. Something told me that it would become a forever favorite, and it did.

The imagery that Elizabeth Acevedo gives us through The Poet X, made me feel like I was watching every scene from up close and personal. She brought me deep into the heart, the world, and the mindset of X.

And when the mother burned the journal, I lost it. Tears everywhere because I know how it feels to have your mother destroy your work because she doesn't understand. Doesn't want to understand, and doesn't approve.

It made me remember some of my own journey; and I think that if a poet can recall memories, feelings, and breakthrough moments of their readers, then it definitely deserves 5 stars.
