I had high expectations for this one - perhaps too high - given my previous experience with Butler's writing. Unfortunately I didn't like this as much as I had hoped. The first 1/3 was a bit too slow paced and filled with exposition for my liking. After the halfway mark it picked up significantly and was really good!
Maybe this was meant to be symbolic and showcase something deeper and I just didn't get it, but I found Lauren's "obsession" with God/Earthseed to be quite annoying. It was too preachy for me and came in the way of the story sometimes.
A huge minus point for Lauren ending up in a relationship with Bankole. I mean COME ON that's not appropriate in any way.
Okey, back to the good parts. The world building was great. Very interesting exploration of capitalism and the exploration of the earth and the costs that it can have. Some aspects were quite close to reality today - which felt both disturbing/uncanny and fascinating in a way.
