I’m one of the innocents who could have spoken up and out when no one would listen to the ‘guilty’, but I did not speak and thus became guilty myself. And when they finally set the structure to burn the books, using the firemen, I grunted a few times and subsided, for there were no others grunting or yelling with me, by then. Now, it’s too late.

Decades later, this still rings true in the banning of books in the United States, in the restrictions on teaching in the United Kingdom. ‘Those who cannot build will burn’. Sometimes it feels like the world around me is sleeping, like nobody is noticing what is happening. But we must hold on to knowledge, and think critically. What has happened before is happening again.
