Amateur: A True Story About What Makes a Man
by Thomas Page McBee
DID NOT FINISH: 29%
I've had to put this one down. Sixty pages in and I still don't know where the author's getting his ideas about gender from (several are quite foreign to me), which means I have no context to help me make sense of the questions about masculinity that he's asking in each chapter. Worse, due to my confusion, I'm getting more and more frustrated with his habit of speaking in generalisations that don't make sense to me.
That said, it had some beautiful moments, and I'm not surprised that it has so many positive reviews and seems to have resonated with so many people. It just doesn't do it for me, unfortunately.
