A Short Walk Through a Wide World by Douglas Westerbeke

3.5/5
In any given moment, this was fairly delightful. But as an overarching story, I had some issues. Mainly, when you follow a character who by default can't make long lasting connections with people, you have very few characters that take you the whole way through and thus not a lot of character arc. I've come to realize that I am a character over plot girl every time, and this has such a heavy focus on small, mini adventures with snapshots of various different people. Also, while it wasn't an unsatisfying ending, you can't go into this expecting to figure out the why or how or rules of the world, you just have to take it for what it is. I think it's successful in that, but again, personal preference has me lean towards a harder magic system.
