Passion and Purity: Learning to Bring Your Love Life Under Christ's Control
by Elisabeth Elliot
This is the second Elisabeth Elliott book that I've read in a row, and I had previously (late 90s) read Through Gates of Splendor. For one of my pastors recently quoted her famous line from that book and it motivated me to find other audiobooks of her's at the library. I listen to the other one first because it was short, and then moved to this one because my wife has owned a copy of it for years and I have considered it many times as I've looked at it on our bookshelves. Although there are applications of men, it is definitely a book targeted at women; and additionally is targeted towards those who are not married yet. Not to say that it doesn't have application for marriage, and it is also useful for instructing children. I have always found it difficult to learn from people's testimonies, but kind of broke the code for that after a few years of chapel in college. Nonetheless, I feel like she relies a little too much on stories and anecdotes to illustrate her point. I also think at times that it's possible she and Jim drug their feet until God got to the point where he had to beat them over her head with a stick to make it obvious to them what he planned for their life
