Starstruck: My Unlikely Road to Hollywood by Leonard Maltin

funny informative lighthearted reflective medium-paced

3.0

Bounces back and forth chronologically, making sometimes for a confusing read - I kept trying to puzzle out what decade it was every time I began a new chapter. At one point he talked about working on his second book, but he hadn't mentioned publishing the first yet, and then half a chapter later he went back to discuss his first book.

The anecdotes are fine. The best would be the mention of Jerry Lewis's failed 1963 live show, which immediately sent me to YouTube to watch the dumpster fire for myself. Some chapters, like the one about jazz music, I skipped altogether from lack of interest. Don't expect any dirt! This is a fond look back at the movies and stars that the author adores, and only one star comes off poorly - Burt Reynolds - but even then the author tries to be understanding.

3 stars, but only because I had to skip so much near the middle-end for lack of interest on current stars/jazz/etc.
