Winner Take All
by Laurie Devore
Rating 3.5 stars
As a kept reading this book my opinion kept shifting, some parts felt brilliant written from a perspective and view that needed to be voiced, others felt strange and crammed together. I will say that even though the main characters are both fairly unlikable (the author makes a point of stating that they are supposed to be), I did feel compelled to finish the book which rarely happens when I truly dislike the characters. I think their were two main issues for me. The first was the love-hate-lust relationship, it just doesn't work well with young adult writing and would have been better suited to a new adult novel. The second was the number of social issues that the author tried to tackle from mental health to women's rights. While everything she addressed was important and a topic that needs to be talked about trying to address so many problems at the same time resulted in a novel that doesn't really address anything or gel in the end.
