Crying in H Mart
by Michelle Zauner
It's hard not to cry while reading Crying in H Mart. A deeply honest look into cancer, dealing with complicated parental figures as the power dynamic changes over the time you know them, heritage, and guilt. Zauner's focus is always on her relationship with her mom, so there are large chunks of the story (such as Psychopomp's development, her relationship with her spouse) that are glossed over in favor of keeping the emotional core of the story, which so happens to include a lot of mouthwatering descriptions of food, intact. So be aware that what you're coming in for is going to be primarily that deluge of raw emotional pain, and make sure you're reading this while you're in a good mental space.
