American Dirt by Jeanine Cummins

3.0

This was heavy, probably the heaviest novel I have read since The Kite Runner.

I was semi engaged, though I did feel disconnected with Luca and slightly discinnected with Lydia. The deaths on the first page aimed to make readers grieve but I did not know them whatsoever.

When the two sisters, Soledad and Rebeca (propee spelling), we introduced, I actually connected with them and ended up cheering for them more then I did for Lydia and Luca and was relieved everytime they were reunited.

Lydia was so naive sometimes that it was annoying (especially about Lorenzo)
She was also kinda selfish.
Luca was just kind of dull to me.

Honestly, I did want to keep reading and was engaged.
However, I reccomend to be wary of this book due to triggers.
And I would like to share an article, an own voices article detailing the controversies of this book. Please be aware that the article may contain triggering content.
