Heartstopper Volume 1 by Alice Oseman

4.0

On Election Day, I just could not handle watching the news or closely following the voting results. Instead, I escaped into the soft queer romance that is Alice Oseman’s Heartstopper.

I got Heartstopper at my local comic book store (shout out to Green Brain!), and it was a complete delight! I love a friends-to-lovers take, and I particularly love it when both characters are as kind and relatable as Charlie and Nick. I loved seeing Nick grow into his own and stand up to his friends. I just loved Charlie generally, and I’m curious to see his character developed and his other relationships explored more.

Heartstopper didn’t earn five star from me only because I felt like the ending was a little abrupt, and I’d like the other relationships at play (Charlie and his family, Charlie and his best friend, Nick and his friends, Nick and his family) explored more. I look forward to getting my hands on volume 2!
