In Cold Blood by Truman Capote

dark informative mysterious tense slow-paced

absolutely captivating from front to back. some of the best, if not the best, prose i've read. it covers a lot of ground but pays particular attention to the killers, i found it interesting how well Capote humanises such despicable people. i also really love the focus on the town and its reaction to the murders (as well as its relationship to the victims), kind of reminded me of M (1931) in how the city is portrayed as its own character there as the town is here. i do wish that more time was spent on Dewey and his team since their pursuit of the killers was (outside of the townspeople's perspective) the most interesting part of the book to me but honestly i don't mind that it didn't since the book is pretty much perfect as is. just an incredible work all around.
