Twin Crowns by Katherine Webber, Catherine Doyle
4.0

Twin Crowns is the first book in a new series by writing team, Catherine Doyle and Katherine Webber. Described as high-stakes fantasy rom-com, this adorable young adult novel is one not to be missed.

This book was selected as the June read in our online fantasy romance book club (info below if you would like to join). I was supposed to read a few chapters at a time to discuss but ‘accidentally’ devoured the whole thing in one sitting. I went in expecting another run of the mill YA fantasy and instead found a richly detailed fantasy world, complex and multifaceted main characters and a story that begs for sequels.

I had a hard time choosing which of the two main characters I preferred as each brought a unique POV and storyline. There is romance but its PG enough to appeal to a wide audience but at no point did it feel juvenile. It took a few chapters before I was completely hooked but once I got used to the style and story that was enough for me to continue turning pages well into the night.

The story follows Rose and Wren, twins princesses separated at birth and raised in entirely different worlds. The story reminded me of the movie The Princess Switch. I love books about twins and even more when twins swap places.

If you enjoy YA romance fantasy, then I am sure you will find this one up your alley. I am eager to see what the next books holds, I’m just sad I have to wait for it to come out. Hopefully it won’t be too long!
