Take It Back
by Kia Abdullah
WOW!
First, this author is not talked about nearly enough and is now one I will read every word she happens to write, no matter how difficult the subject. She wastes no words and has no interest in shying away from truth regardless of how ugly it is; I love that!
Second, check your trigger warnings, this one has A LOT of things that could be potentially triggering.
Third, read this book if you can, it's excellent. It's very hard, SA usually is of course, but that's just the tip of the iceberg with this one. I have a strange obsession with courtroom drama, it's my favorite thing in television or movies and when it appears in a book, it's bliss for me. For that this book was pure bliss....but understand, the reason we are in court is anything but blissful. The characters are exactly what they need to be, you love some, you hate some and some you're not sure but they're written so well you're still curious and invested.
This book will leave you raw and unsettled, perhaps a little uneasy and all of that makes for some truly astounding storytelling by a very gifted author. I cannot wait to read more by her, though I'm sure I'll need a "pallet cleanser" in-between without a doubt.
