backlogbooks 's review for:
The Cut
by C. J. Dotson
General disclaimer: this is less of a review and more of my notes so i can describe the book in the future.
A compelling story of a woman fleeing an abusive relationship just to end up in another dangerous situation--this one of the supernatural variety

- not as gross as the cover implied! give me more skin crawling!
- the most scared/tense I felt were the scenes where Sam was involved, but there were some good supernatural scares & icks as well
- look, was the worldbuilding perfect? no, but
a lil old lady got to make some creatures so that's good enough for me - something very compelling about facing horrors you can't understand but being forced to consult the budget because there's no safety net. and trying to find the worst apartment you can stand, but it has to be safe not just for you but for your children
