When the Moon Hatched by Sarah A. Parker
3.0
adventurous dark mysterious fast-paced
Plot or Character Driven: A mix
Strong character development: Complicated
Loveable characters: No
Diverse cast of characters: No
Flaws of characters a main focus: Yes

interesting world building, but overburdened by uninteresting, unlikable characters that never have growth— ALL movement is plot that furthers the mystery of fmc’s traumatic past

numerous characters’ perspectives are given but none of the work to make the reader care about these extraneous supports are given until later: their purpose is to advance plot and nothing else

personal gripe: mystery is not mysterious enough— i figured things out way too quickly

pacing is strange, so sexual conversation occurs at weird, inopportune times; fmc’s angst is “cured” by sex and she is only anchored to mmc because of sexual attraction

not really an “enemies-to-lovers” romantasy as advertised,
she’s his “dead” wife with amnesia so she’s already inherently not his enemy

the plot might be interesting enough to read the sequel, but the cast is personally very grating

i’m not emotionally sadistic enough to enjoy angst with no resolution so i might ultimately just be the wrong audience for this— therapy has me agonizing over the fmc’s choices rather than empathize with her
