a really good look at the everest disaster of 1996 that was very informative while also being accessible for anyone to be able to understand. it's heartbreaking in its own right. i do find myself wishing that the author and anatoli/dewalt had not been beefing with each other because the book ended in a very bittersweet way that i would have wanted to sit on and think about, but then the afterword was just krakauer being catty because dewalt had been cattier about him etc etc
