Morning Glory by Sarah Jio

3.0

I have to say that the one thing I took most from this book is that I would love to go live in a house boat-but probably only for a day. Other than that, this book didn't really seem like any more than any other book I've read. I don't really feel like the houseboat community was an asset to the setting of the book. It could have been any other close knit community, but instead of paddling over to a neighbor's house, it would be walking. Both Penny's and Ada's stories were charming and for the most part interesting, but I can't say it was a great new idea or would cause a book revolution or anything. It was just a book with a simple plot. The writing was nice and I appreciated that Jio didn't make Ada a hateful character in the way that she let her grief consume everything and eventually would just get annoying. She was real in the way that she felt bad for liking someone after her husband died, but she was also willing to see that it might be a good thing for her. Some parts of the book (especially the end) were really cheesy and I can't say I appreciated it, but I did see it coming, which probably made it worse. Like I said, it was a typical love story with a typical ending. In other words, a quick read that will leave you, for the most part, satisfied.
