Invisible Cities
by Italo Calvino
4.5⭐️
Such beautifully written prose. Marco Polo’s descriptions to Ghengis Khan on the cities throughout his travels. Each one appears as though describing a woman, making each city seem alive, nursing its peoples. Each narrative twists into the other, you begin to realise the most profound city of all to Marco Polo is his home city, Venice. All inspiration is drawn from and goes back to its watery canals and spiralling streets. A truly unique work. The copy in Italian is just as stunning.
