I came cuz of Shuggie Bain, and left traumatized, which is saying a lot when it comes to me (these kinds of books are my cup of tea). I found myself explaining to my bf that this is a trauma-dump book. I do love some of the characters - they're just as complicated and loveable and sad as the ones in Shuggie Bain, only you add lgbtqi+ teenagers and homophobia into the mix and it becomes extra super duper sad.
