This was the second book I read by Zhang. She is adept at integrating a solidarity with indigenous perspective into her novels, as well as a matter of fact queerness. She has a poetic style, and the time that this piece was set in is not one I know much about. Although the plot is not fast paced, I read this quickly, wanting to know what happened next.
