Junkyard Druid by M.D. Massey
3.0

General Overview
A punchy, quick, but overall pleasant read, I was happy to be recommended Junkyard Druid.

Style
Written from a sole perspective, but from a selection of points in time, M.D. Massey shows competent skills in his writing style. He gives us an interesting host of characters, and throws us right into the action from the get go. This read is sharp and to the point, with no extra fat given to unnecessary lore or waffle.

I feel a little bit of this could have been useful for the world that is being set up, but on the other hand, some may enjoy the 'unknowness' this gives the whole piece.

Story
Covering the fall of a rising druid, tied to ancient Irish myths Colin McCool (what a stupid name though) is cursed. This tears, literally and figuratively his life apart. Flash forward and Colin's life has changed. His tutor is a wreck, he is living hand to mouth, and is starting college.

The magic world keeps pulling him back in however, and soon Colin is in the middle of a brewing magical gang war.

To avoid giving any further away, I will simply say this feels a touch like a detective novel, without the detail you'd usually find with one. This story felt brief, with honestly little time to delve into the characters. They feel a touch cartoony in a good way, but there is just not enough time in this read to really get to know them in my opinion.

Final Thoughts
An interesting enough read that is competently written.
