Falling by T.J. Newman
2.0

James Patterson Lite aka Falling is a page-turner, but man, does it stumble into some tired tropes. The villains here are Kurdish/Middle Eastern, and their motives? Basically “America hurt us, so we hurt back.” It’s so 2002. Feels lazy and kinda icky, tbh.
The heroes? American pilot and the FBI, swooping in like superheroes. Zero nuance. It’s like a Pentagon-funded action movie—lots of explosions, zero questions. The second half? Could’ve been half as long. The back-and-forth between the plane and FBI ops gets repetitive. The tension deflates when you’re just waiting for the inevitable “USA! USA!” ending.

If you like super predictable thrillers (noble dad hero! Gagged wife! Evil foreigner!), you’ll zip through this. But don’t expect depth or twists. It’s popcorn entertainment with a side of cringe.
