Second Star to the Left by Megan Van Dyke

5.0

The perfect amount of fairy tale goodness and spicy spicy storylines!

I love retellings of classic fairytales, especially Peter Pan which is a childhood fave but this step up into an adult novel was just what I needed!

The POV of Tink and Hook really brought a new view to the story, alternating between the two throughout the book. I loved the sassy, hot headed yet independent portrayal of Tink and the softer side we get to see of Hook as the story progresses.
Megan’s writing style is fantastic, I love how she expands on what we already know of Neverland, bringing in new characters, places and adventures. The wee plot twist thrown in with Lily had me reeling, the sneaky so and so! I adore the whole experience of reading through a familiar story with that new “grown up” feeling.

Now onto the spice. I was so glad that, unlike many spicy adult novels, this wasn’t full on in your face every chapter. It was nicely spaced out that made you pleasantly surprised when the spicy scenes came along, very well written and not cringey like so many can be!

Honestly if you’re looking for a new fantasy read that has a familiar feel yet the extra spice we all look for then this is so very for you!
