All the Devils Are Here by Louise Penny

4.0

This might be spoilery at some point but I liked this story. I didn't even realize this was well into the series so maybe that would change how I feel about some of the characters.

This is a book that does a lot of lifting early so that you know the characters and relationships and it is done very well. All of the color and background is used well to set the stage. The mystery itself is solid and the twists and turns make sense and don't make the story get too unrealistic. Books of this type can give you so many turns and double backs that it can be super nonsensical.

The main character Armand is super smart but not so smart that no one can maybe get some things over on him. The 'I knew it but needed you to confirm it' is kept to a minimum. As far as what I think is a spoiler, his son Daniel is thoroughly unlikable for the vast majority of the book. It doesn't help that when you get their reasoning for why he behaves the way he does, it doesn't make me feel better about it. It reinforces the way I dislike him. Maybe that's intentional but maybe its just me. That's the only issue I have with this story although I do like that it has this unlikable character.
