We all know the heiress and socialite Paris Hilton, one of the most popular young women from the early 2000s. Hearing her story was eye opening, particularly her experience at Provo Canyon School and other facilities for "troubled" teens that were really sites of abuse and neglect. Of course, like with any human, she has made good and bad decisions. For example, back in the day Paris was filmed singing vile lyrics that were racist and xenophobic in nature. Her trauma doesn't excuse that behavior but people do dumb things and make mistakes. It appears that she is apologetic and as far as I know, it hasn't happened again.
It's interesting to hear the side of the story of these women who were judged unfairly by society in the early 2000s - "dumb", "slut", "whores", and other cruel insults were constantly hurled at them. Society was cruel and when I think about how young they were and how mean the world was to them, it is sad and I am glad that things are changing for the better.
