For a book written in 1991, this took me by surprise. Set in the 12th century (although there wasn’t any medieval world building), the themes of romance linked to SA really surprised me. The beginning of the novel was a tad disturbing for a conventional romance book. The mc’s relationship was a good slow burn, but the underlying SA would only suit a particular type of reader
