School Spirits by Rachel Hawkins
3.0
I have just finished reading this spin-off series by Rachel Hawkins
and was not disappointed. Once again, Rachel was able to create another
phenomenal book series.
First of all, I have to say that I loved the characters. I loved that Izzy
was able to hold her own against the troubles that were pushed towards her.
She struck me as a strong and independent character, but with some flaws that
made her relatable to readers and not too shallow.
I also loved Dex. His uniqueness as a character was very refreshing. I loved how he was
able to not care about what anyone else thought about him and how he became Romy's
and Anderson's friend even when he knew that it would probably make him a social outcast.
On top of all that, he was sweet, funny, and a very easy character to like.
The plot was not so easy to see in the beginning, but as the story progressed, I could see the story unfolding. Basically, the story is about Izzy finally getting a taste of what it felt like to be a regular teenager, go to a regular high school, and make some new friends when all she had known before was training to be a Brannick. It was especially important for her to master her skills because she and her mom were the only Brannics left of their line, excluding, Finnley, Izzy's sister, who had gone missing a while ago. While Izzy was dreading going to high school for the first time and on top of that investigating a boring haunting, she did not expect to like the experience.
The only reason I'm taking away half a star is because at some points in the story, I would have liked a bit more action. I feel like there could have been some good action scenes in the story, but maybe that's just me craving for a little bit more adventure while reading.
Overall, I really enjoyed reading this book and piecing the clues that the author left us to solve the mystery.
