Vanderbilt: The Rise and Fall of an American Dynasty by Katherine Howe, Anderson Cooper
3.0
informative medium-paced

This books reminds me a bit of when I was a kid writing my first research papers for school. I wanted to add everything slightly interesting I found in my research even if it was barely related to my topic. Which then needed to be edited down to a singular focus. This book could have benefited from major editing.
There are a lot of interesting tidbits thrown in with no rhyme or reason. The book also jumps around so much and there is no continuous thread to follow. I won't lie I skimmed the chapter on yacht racing and was almost ready to give up at that point. However the tone drastically changes once the topic of Anderson's mother Gloria Vanderbilt comes up.
I almost suspect that Anderson had wished to write a novel about his mother but the publishers pushed for the Vanderbilts in large, who Anderson did not care enough for.
