An intriguing story that drew me in from the first chapter and was definitely very intense! This book doesn't shy away from violence and other tough themes of war and torture, so I don't recommend if you are squeamish.
A lot of hints were scattered throughout and this made it fun to try and theorise because I could feel a twist coming, especially given how confused about everything Renata was. And I admit, those clues came together so well to form a great reveal at the end.
However, despite this having a great premise, I didn't find myself as engaged as I would have liked. It was quite slow paced and it felt like nothing really happened for a good chunk of the book. I also thought the world building could have been better - I often got confused about the different Moria/magics and I had trouble visualising the environment as the descriptions were quite vague.
Overall it was a very cool and interesting story that I'm keen to read the conclusion of, but the world wasn't quite immersive enough.
