Prophet Song by Paul Lynch

4.0

I liked the writing style, even though it is something very different from what I normally read, but ngl it was tiring after a while.
I liked the plot because I found it realistic and a happy end would have felt very forced so i was happy that it didn't have one, for example the desicion the keep the reader in the dark about Mark and Larrys whereabouts and leaving the question open if they are still alive or not.
I am very indesive about the death of Bailey. Because on the one hand I understand that it was the loss that finally showed Eilish that she and her family needed to flee the country to be safe. Something I, as the reader waited for the whole last 150 pages.
I kept thinking "please just leave IT IS NOT SAFE FOR GODS SAKE"
But on the other hand I wonder if losing Larry and Mark shouldn't have been enough to get her to this decision?
I guess this just shows how you stop thinking clearly war situation, because you still hope for salvation and that in the end, everything will turn out alright.
I am probably not a fan of that part because I genuinely liked Bailey and reading about the torture he went through before he died seemed a bit too harsh for me.
