I found this book engaging and compelling, though I adjusted my rating to 4 stars for several reasons. Firstly, I hoped for a more immediate and intense romantic connection between the characters. Secondly, I felt the dramatic tension could have been heightened with more widespread rumors earlier in the narrative. Thirdly, the breakup in the third act felt somewhat contrived, though I appreciated the resolution of the characters' friendship. Fourthly, the exploration of parental issues felt somewhat clichéd and reminiscent of certain fanfiction tropes. Finally, the lengthy chapters could have been broken up for better pacing. Overall, I rate this book at 4.5 stars, with particular admiration for its cinematic style and the satisfying circularity of its ending.
