It is an epic odyssey of a horror novel. Overall, the book was quite good. There are a number of key differences from the movies. If you enjoyed the movies and want to delve more into the disturbing back stories of residents of Derry, this book will sustain your appetite. But beware. The ending of the novel is wacky. It almost reads like a boss battle at some points. Like a fight between Goku and Majin Buu in Dragonball Z.
It is an allegory for a small town which looks innocent on the surface but hides a deep darkness not seen by most.
It's not the best Stephen King novel I've read but I certainly don't regret reading it. It has its sweet heartfelt moments too.
If you just want to read a book about childhood nostalgia I would suggest reading The Body instead.
