A Curse for True Love by Stephanie Garber

3.0

I’d rather go up in flames with him than watch while he burns.

At this point, I am a little tired of the lost memories trope, but I guess it's fitting for a fairytale. This book is good for finally giving us closure for the story and ensuring that our favorite couple is the endgame. But the execution... It could have been better. Reading this book does not feel very rewarding, we barely have those sweet happy moments when Jacks and Eva are finally together and happy. The ending was super abrupt, and the story robbed us of precious moments because of the added POVs that nobody cares about. And the most awful thing that has become a trend with popular authors these days is that the epilogue was separated between three exclusive editions. So if you are broke and do not have access to exclusive editions, Stephanie Garber thinks you are not worth knowing the whole story, and it has some crucial details that should be accessible to everyone, for example, the hint about why Jacks eat apples.

But even if you have gathered all of the possible editions, some questions will never be answered and it is quite a big mistake for this series. There is still one scar on Eva’s hand? Does she still need to fulfill her part of the bargain with Jacks, or do we forget about this? Even though we can assume the reason why Jacks eat apples through the bonus epilogues, I still think we deserve a clear answer to that. Is he still a Fate? Will he live forever while Eva gets old and dies? What happened to Luc? What happened to Marisol?
AND FOR THE LOVE OF GOD, WHY THERE WAS SO MUCH APOLLO???? I really do not give a flying f about him. And we get so much less Jacks instead…

I did enjoy reading this series, mainly because of Jacks. However, I feel that the second book was the strongest, and this one is the weakest. Although the story is still quite interesting, I don't think I will read anything else by Stephanie Garber. This particular series fulfilled my desire for a romantic fairytale, and I think if I read something similar, it would be too much.
