feelsattack 's review for:
Children of Dune
by Frank Herbert
I feel like I have to re-read the entire series again for this book to even mildly make sense. I'm having difficulty connecting the themes of Children of Dune to the first two books. It feels almost separate from the first two and yet... somehow the same? Somehow a continuation yet its own independent book. The ending pulled a Second Foundation in that it was a main character lecturing another character, and I've never been able to understand what the First Speaker was talking about even to this day, three years later. The final chapter is jarring to me and this book quickly went from "I think it's going to be a 5 stars!" to "I don't understand anything."
I appreciate the many ways that Herbert broke my heart, regardless of how the ending sort of took me out of the book's vibe. I feel such sadness for Paul and even greater sadness for Leto. I'll definitely re-read this series again at some later point in life.
