Nervous Conditions by Tsitsi Dangarembga

I was skeptical at first but the narration was so good- I was hooked before I knew it. The narrator does a good job of sketching out the difficulty of being a woman, and of being African. The constant need to revolt being tempered by the need to survive is a motif throughout the book for almost all the characters.
