Burden Kansas by Alan Ryker

4.0

4 stars. Fun little high octane ride of a novella, that takes vampires and puts them in an atypical setting, very similar to [b:30 Days of Night|289294|30 Days of Night |Tim Lebbon|http://photo.goodreads.com/books/1348276370s/289294.jpg|280670] or, one of my favourite vampire movies of all time, Kathryn Bigelow's most exceptionally awesome vampire-western classic Near Dark.

Ryker has a great ear for dialogue, and the characters here really work in the setting. This is a fantastic modern horror western with a great protagonist who is just enough anti-hero to pull me in and make it work. For 2.99 in Amazon's kindle store I'd recommend this to any non sparkly vampire fans, totally worth the money.
