Well Met
by Jen DeLuca
Well Met was certainly cheesy and formulaic as far as romcoms go, but that didn't stop me from enjoying it! My expectations were low, but I honestly thought that, in general, this was better executed than most books from the genre. I mean, romance at a Renaissance faire? How fun!
But as much as it was fun and silly, it definitely at parts got darker than I was expecting it to, similarly to how I felt reading [b:The Friend Zone|41945163|The Friend Zone|Abby Jimenez|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1553782196l/41945163._SY75_.jpg|65437442]. At first Emily thinks the English teacher running the faire, Simon, is a straight-up jerk with a stick up his butt. Eventually you learn why, though, and it puts everything into perspective.
It also got spicier than I was expecting! One scene in particular...whoa.
This book was far from perfect, though. I thought that the "conflict" that's inevitable in a romcom was a little lacking and almost silly. The ending was a bit on the predictable side, too, which, again, I've come to expect from the genre, but it was a little more predictable than I'd be willing to give it a pass for.
Lastly, this isn't really a criticism, but it was really distracting that the name of the town was Willow Creek, I couldn't stop thinking of The Sims 4 :P
If you're in the mood for a quick romcom, I'd definitely recommend this one. It was cute, fun, and sexy, but don't expect the most original romcom ever written!
