phungnt 's review for:
A Conjuring of Light
by V.E. Schwab
4/5 - Good concluding book but I still don't like the direction that the series went in
Some things I like: 1. Holland's backstory 2. Holland's redemption 3. the final fighting scene 4. Lila and Kell being together 5. Kell. I really like Kell.
Some things I don't like: 1. How this book and the last book did not focus on travelling between Londons. I felt like that was what made the first book so interesting and yeah the story line for the series definitely did not focus on that and I would've liked it better if it did 2. Rhy's dumb move at the end where he left to go to the Shadow palace by himself. He basically gave himself a death sentence and he thought he was invincible or something and I hate characters like that 3. How the ambassadors or whatever from the neighbouring kingdom were basically nonexistent in the book until the end and yeah I felt like they should've been more involved which would've made it more realistic 4. I still don't like Lila. I don't like how she thinks she's invincible and yeah I literally could not care less when she almost died in that alley but I do like Kell and Lila together.
Some things I don't understand: 1. The shadows at Ned's bar??? Confused about that and why that's relevant to the story 2. Lila's motives which I also didn't understand in the first book. What is the real reason why she's putting her life in danger to save Red London? Does she call it home now? Does she feel invincible and therefore feels like she must help save Red London? Is it cause she loves Kell? Her motives just were not explained. 3. Alucard and Rhy. I just needed more backstory on why they're so in love and specifically, why Rhy was still in love with Alucard even though they parted ways three years ago.
Would I read this series again? I don't know. It was definitely better than the other V.E. Schwabb books I've read before (Monsters of Verity, Invisible Life of Addie LaRue). I feel like it might be a forgettable series though. We'll see how I feel in the next coming years.
