The Kingdom by Amanda Stevens

4.0

In 2011 I read the first book in The Graveyard Queen Series and I was hooked on Steven's creepy imagery and convincing storyline. This past weekend - needing a break from reading heavy hitters - I was at my local library and stumbled upon the next two books in the series and spent the rest of the weekend devouring Steven's lush and intense prose as the Graveyard Queen, Amelia Gray, tries to protect herself from the ghosts she can see and the ghosts of her past.

In The Kingdom we leave Charleston, SC and head to the Blue ridge foothills of South Carolina where Amelia has been commissioned to restore a neglected family cemetery. For some reason she has been drawn to Asher Falls the creepy little town near the cemetery where at night the ghosties appear in the streets and an evil presence in the mountains controls the area and wants Amelia to stay... forever. This book was downright scary and left chills.
